Really every quad is about the same as far as how much work it will take to make them street legal. Depending on the state, it may not even be possible at all. Unless you get lucky and somebody just happens to know texas's laws on this (doubtful) your best bet is to contact your department of transportation, or talk to somebody at a state inspection shop. Some states it's as simple as putting on turn signals and a horn.

Others require everything from dot approved tires, to full fenders, and actually having to replace the rear axle with a single rear tire like a motorcycle in order to get it registered and inspected through a loophole.

Raptor 660 probably isn't the best thing to run on the street. They've got the power, but they're just too tall and tippy to be stable enough on pavement. If you widen one it would be a different story.

Try here http://www.joeracerproducts.com/ I have seen advertisements from them saying they have made dirt bike street legal & would probably be a good starting point. I have never dealt with them but it may be worth a try or at least a source of information on what it would take.............................................. ...DF1

I have a feeling mr. afroman isn't coming back, his first post was his only post.

I don't know if they'd be able to help anyways, making a dirtbike street legal is very simple because you can just register it as a motorcycle, quads are a whole different story.

I agree that it probably is a little easier to make a dirt bike street legal than it is to make a 4 wheeler street legal but either one is more involved than just registering it as a street bike. Either 1 will need DOT aproved lights, brakes, & tires at a minimum. It may also be required for the frames & steering systems to meet DOT requirments. I'm assuming it can be done because i have seen 2 4 wheelers (not in person) that were for sale that the owners said were street legal & they did have tags on them at the time.

I think it would be pretty cool to do but i'm not sure it would be worth the trouble........................................... ..........DF1

Read the following: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/f...orms/MSB26ATVLaws.pdf

In Texas it has to be 3 wheels or less to be considered as a motercycle. Otherwise, the inspection is done as a passenger car. ATVs can not be inspected regardless of how equipped. This document states that this class of vehicle is not designed for use on public roads. Which pisses me off. You can drive a Mule off HWY and get a plate too.

Yep, the title here in Texas will say ORV. They will not change that.

Odd, another person from Texas asked the same question yesterday in another thread, and it was their first post.

Maybe it's Schizophreniaman.

Every state has its obsticules to overcome to turn a offroad vehicle into a street machine. Mods are always neccessary be it lighting kit with turns, stop and running lights/at least one mirror/DOT approved tires/horn etc. That is the easy part usually, expensive depending on what your state requires but easy non the less.
The difficult part alot of the time ends up being the paperwork and the visit to the DMV. I have been riding a Honda XL600r that I installed every modification one could think of to make it the ultimate torque monster up here in Alaska for the last 8 years.BUT....it had a title and was street legal from the get go,not a big deal.
Last year I bought a brand new Honda CRF450R and threw all kinds of money and time at it too make it street legal enough to title.I knew it could very well turn out not being able to be liscenced and even bought a frame and title for a XR650L off ebay just in case I needed to tag it as a different bike which would have been stupid to do but really wanted to ride this beast.
The problem paper work wise with taking a dirt bike/wheeler and making it street legal is you dont get a title for it when you purchase it you get a Certificate of Origin which has "offroad use only" typed right on it and your asking the person whos helping you at the DMV to exchange it for a street legal title.
Some states are now haveing a red flag show up on the computer at the DMV when your VIN is inputted and it tells them right away that it is indeed an offroad vehicle your trying to liscence like for instance California.Do alot of research on your States rules and regulations first or just try to be lucky like I did and spend lotsa money in hopes of slipping it through.Alaska so happens to be a little tougher to do this I found out by research BUT.....I went down with my Certificate of Origin tucked in the middle of a pile of my boat registration,4 wheeler trailer registration and wifes Jeeps registration that all needed renewal and pulled 3 different numbers and went to the counter on the last number thinking she looked nicer than my other two choices that called my number.I made lotsa small talk while she was typing away and walked out with a huge smile on my face.
When I rip around town on that bike cops all do a double take and people yell out there windows at the lights "HOW THE _ _LL DID YOU GET THAT ON THE ROAD?" In my state I nedded a stop/turn/and hi-lo headlight, horn, one mirror and DOT tires(I didnt do,still working on the stock nobbies). Although as far as the wife knows I also needed the heavier flywheel, rekluse clutch, rekluse rear hand brake, acerbis over sized tank,etc.,etc....
If you need help pushing paperwork through another option is to pay $250.00 to a firm who specializes in just these legal matters out of Texas called "Tuesday Knights",just google it.I was gonna look into it but obviosly didnt have to.
Only downside to all of this is with a performance offroad bike or quad its far to easy to draw attention to yourself while pulling 4 and 5 gear wheelies down the Hiway!

Default Did you know?

Did you know there are more trailers registered in Maine than any other state (except California - and that requires it's own explanation) and that's been true for over 40 years?
