I am going to start racing this spring the nearest track to me (3 hours away)and I was wondering what most of you guys out there use for gearing on the 400EX when racing. Do you go down one tooth on the front sprocket or stock? I know this is not a high speed course so I don't need top end. What are you running? My bike is pretty much stock besides for triple rate works front shocks, jst kit, holeshot tires, and some other odds and ends like handlebars, etc. By the time I race I might have a pipe on it too.

I start a race series tommorrow and have just changed my gears to 16/37. Stock is 15/38. I also have 18" tires. The 400 has a lot of power and can take the gear change. You may not need top speed but if the quad can handle the gears then it will allow you to have to shift less, which will reduce fatigue. If you have 20" tires I would recommend 15/37. If you change the front sprocket you must remove the case saver. Get a pipe and experiment with different set-ups. Good luck.
