side effects of changing sprockets
#1
Hi,
I have a KFX 450r. I am new to the atv world and have little knowledge. I felt my gears were too close or too low so I started playing around with my sprockets. I started with 15 front. That was not enought so I went to 15 front and 37 rear. It was better but at this point I wanted to se just how fast i could go. I ended up ( about 1 month ago) ordering titanium sprockets from sidewinder racing with a chain to go with that. They told me ( and I have read it elsewhere) that combining chain sprocket from the same manufacture is better because they test them together. I presently have a 15 tooth front and 33 tooth rear. I paid for the whole thing 450 $ us. My atv shiftes smooth and my top speed has incresed from 118 km/h to 135 km/h. 72-73 m/h to 83-84 m'h. I see no problems with it but I can imagine that at take off I am putting more strain on the engine. I beleive that once it's in motion it doesn't matter at all? Does any know of unwanted side effcts of my mods. Especially long term effects on tranmission and engine. Also you should know that i only drive on flat surfaces I never do any hill climbing.
thanks

I'm pretty sure that engine has enough power to handle the gearing you are running..... do an exhaust system and you will make up for the low end you gave away in the gearing....
