Default slip on or header pipe

i have heard from a bunch of people that on the new 4 strokes that the slip on is what gives you the power, and the the stock head pipes are made really good from factory. but then i have heard the oppostie that the head pipe gives you your power like on the 2 strokes. was just looking for some info before i buy one.

Depends entirely on what specific engine we are talking about. They all come corked up in one way or another, to meet emissions standards. So, sometimes they cork up the header and sometimes the muffler, and most times probably both!

For example, if you buy the HRC kit for your 450R, it comes with a new hi-flow header, yet you keep the stock muffler (but uncork it). So, isn't Honda telling you right there that the stock header isn't all that great????

I have never bought just a slip-on for any performance machine......

Yeah it all depends on the machine, and what gains you are looking for..... as a general rule a slip-on will only give you some bottom end. While if you want overall power gains you need to do both and some airbox modification too.....

What machine are we talking about?

I would certainly go with the full exhaust, not just the slip on, if you want all the gain you can get. It is just as important to find a manufacturer that makes the best exhaust system for your atv. Dyno tests seem to be the most accurate test. For example, yoshimura makes a great exhaust system, but maybe not for your atv. For your atv it may be HMF or someone else. So do some research to make sure you get all you can out of the mod. I'm following what reconranger said and it makes sense. I have heard people complain that they added a slip on and saw little or no gains. It would be interesting to find out what would happen if they then added the head pipe....

Is there a slip on or header for the TRX420 Honda (Rancher)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
