I would like to know how modifying my stock cdi to have no rev limiter will affect my motor. And if I will recieve more power with the mod. No one sells aftermarket cdi's for 300ex's so I would have to send it out to FST to be modified.

Thanks for any advice,
Andrew

I'm not sure about the CDI modification, but you can buy a different "black box" that will alter the RPM that your stock rev limiter kicks in. It will give you a few thousand more revs on top and does help out with top end power. I know some people that have these on 400EXs and they aren't too expensive and just plug in in place of the old box.

One company used to be out there that advertised in the mags that they would ship you one and charge you a core and then you sent them yours when you recieved the new one and then they refunded your core.

Now, the only ones i know of are places like TC, they will modiy yours, but you have to send it to them....

Try the classifieds on this website or try www.exriders.com

Keep in mind a 250X CDI wont work...

I wonder what they do when they modify the box to take out the rev limiter. I bet they just clip a diode or something similar.....

Anyone do any home mods to their CDI's?

The only way having no rev limiter will damage you engine is if you over rev it. That said there is a way to totally get rid of the rev limiter....i've tried it but put it back to stock because i like to rev my motor and dont want to risk reving it too far.
I suggest just getting a cdi with an upped rev limit. There are companies that do that for around $80
