Default Increasing compression

Ok I recently used my ATC200e as a submarine and it didn't like it. Without even tying to crank it I had my friend tow me home. Drained the oil, removed spark plug, removed tank/carb and turned it upside down to drain water from the cylinder. After cleaning the carb, dumping the gas, rinsing tank with alcohol, I flipped it back over, reinstated carb/tank, put fresh oil/gas in it and it fired 10 seconds later my head gasket was poking out the side of the engine so I shut it down. After tear down it looks like the gasket giving way and me not cranking it saved everything else. Ok bad I killed the engine but no better time than the present to upgrade. I am considering changing the piston to a stock 200x which would raise the compression from 7.8: 1 to 9.6: 1. Since I'm on a budget I cannot afford the 200x head (Larger valves and slightly larger cooling fins), cam (better lift/duration), or carb (24mm insted of present 22mm)right now. But plan on the cam in the future. I'll probably keep the 22mm carb.....

Default sorry for double post my machine has a character limit

.... 22mm carb because I like the low end power and this thing is already faster than I wanna go on 3 wheels where I ride.

I know it will run a bit hotter cause of the small fins is there anything else I'll need to do to keep this thing from detonating? Such as new jets in carb? Advace timing? If so how much? Anything eles I may need to consider?

9.6:1 to me is stock still lol. I run 10.5:1 in everything I have. Kinda silly to run less. Keep a cool engine by getting the exhaust out thru a free-flowing muffler. If you bottle up the exhaust, you bottle up the heat.

Advancing the timing will cause detonation (pre-ignition anyway, which could blow a hole in your piston). A longer duration cam will reduce cylinder pressures where detonation is a concern (lower rpm), so run a longer duration cam.

Thanks for the reply 9.6 was stock for the 200x stomp crank. I guess most others used the 7.8 cause of the pull rope? I know it's nothing wild I just don't wanna kill my trike again. I'd love to put a 200x cam in it but I'm between jobs and the only way I can afford parts is my buddy is an idiot. He traded for an 06 blaster that didn't have a plug so there was no way to hear it run or check compression, only thing left of the clutch is the basket, the rear end need barrings, and he don't know how to work on it. $80 for a piston and gaskets sounded fair to replace a couple barrings and install a clutch. I don't think I should ask for a $75 cam too. ........Well til the engine doesn't run

I don't think you will have problems with 9.6:1. I can't see why anyone would want 7.8:1

So I'm looking at a plug and play even with everything else stock?

All I really wanna do is get out of having to choose between letting second scream for mercy or letting third fall on its face while bogging (yea I'll carve holes 500-600 yards and run loops ) Third is close to being able to 'keep em spinnin' now but not quite.

I don't know... 200cc is not a lot to play with. Leave out the base gasket and use thin amount of rtv instead. That might save you .020 in deck height and get you closer to 10:1

Yea i know 200cc is small but this thing is lighter than my friends blaster (well my truck sits higer). Stock it has 13hp If I go with the 200x piston $80 new, head $200 ebay, cam $75 ebay, and replacement carb $100 ebay new It goes to about 18hp. Throw in an aftermarket exaust and there is a MX cam (cannot think of the model right now) and you can hit 20hp. Right now I'm broke and only getting the piston through a barter. If I get a respectable (not expecting a miracle) bump on the bottom end (where the compression bump helps most) 3rd should come alive.

Yea I know I could get a used quad for the money but I've ridden several quads (and owned one) and I just dont like the ride on 4 wheels.

I believe stock wet weight is 342lbs (Blaster is 324 dry) but I replaced metal tank with plastic (same capacity) and threw the toolbox and racks in the junk pile.
