Default Build Thread "Bayou" Project

So I bought a 95 kawasaki bayou 300 4x4. I got to say for the price and cheap I was shocked. I paid 700 for it. Just has no brakes and lights have been rewired also the start. It runs fine on a cold start so the choke hasn't been a issue.

I think for a clean look I will delete it and Just add a panel of switches. So lets get started on this project.

I like it. Love the tires and rims!

There is no re jetting if your just rebuilding one over size, the maybe if your talking about a big bore kit (If they make one for the 300)
You may find motor performance under the sporty 300 Lakota I think it has the same motor.

I have questions.
Is 26x12" Fronts hard to steer? Hows the power loss with those on a 300?
I,m worried about my 26" Zilla coming in and there the lightest mud tires made and I,m only going 9" wide fronts and 11" backs on my 350.

Your front tires are larger then my backs will be! and I though I was going over board. LOL.

Really didn't want a 2wd stance since am all time 4x4. Thought I was going over board till I put 26x10-12 on front and 26x12-12 gators someone gave me and with no air pressure 300 was turning the over pretty easy almost looked to easy. After flipping it from pulling someone out found out it had more power than I thought.

I ordered rims then two Kenda to see how they looked. Really looked beast so I said let's just try another 26x12 all around. If it doesn't work I will put them on another project. Since bayou all time 4x4 with high and low range power wasn't a issue. Also since it was all time 4wd also means steering better. Think it's called a lock style makes power in turns. How it was broke down to me.

Am having trouble right now after that water ride. Can't tell if its carb or coil. So putting her in downtime and try and figure why it's bogging down at full throttle my guess is carb. Might order Dg slip on exhaust. New carb since it looks like someone taken mine apart to much. Need to know I guess the main jet and increase it for power? Will get shop to do a bore job later this yr.

Very sweet looking Bayou. I'd guess your bogging is the carb, probably gummed up from using E10 fuel, makes a mess inside the tiny passages inside the carb. Be sure to run some ethanol treatment after you get that new carb. Also put bigger main and pilot jets after you put on the new slip-on muffler. Keep it running, looks awesome.

It was the exhaust valve needed to be readjusted. Since that was fixed I have done this below. Only worries with the quad are front axles. Need a clutch shim I believe.

1.) 1mm wiseco piston
2.) Rebuilt top end.
3.) Stage 1 jet she running lean think am going up another jet.
4.) Highlifter 2" lift
Next up or in the process

1.) Oil cooler going to tap a fan into the oil temp to cut on at 190º
2.) Snorkel added since I found a donor quad.
3.) New decals where made have the paint. Donor will be painted better shape.
4.) Found some ox guards I took off donor
5.) Seat to be recover or custom.
6.) Hmf swamp exhaust

Will post some pictures soon. I have a few quad. 250 quadrunner 4x4, and a 04 rancher 400 with gps big bore. Had a few more STILL bayou easier to work on and just its a swamp rider. How ever that quadrunner is very unique I bet with time it would be a jet ski easy.
