To raise your compression, you could mill the head, or remove your base gasket and use silicone(if you have enough clearance), or buy a Wiseco piston kit(if they make one). If you do any of the options besides the Wiseco piston, you should have an experienced performance guy(or gal) do the work to make sure that you aren't going to wreck anything. I have made pistons meet the valves on more than 1 occasion and it makes a mess out you motor.

If you put a pipe on it, it may have the HORSEPOWER now to make the hill with increased speed. You may not need the TORQUE. Ever think about that? I KNOW I can pull dunes better now with my White Brothers pipe on my 400EX. Alot better than with the sh*tty a*s stocker.

I would bump up your compression first. Then, get a pipe, to get the most out of your new found power.

Get a K&N air filter and a BigGun pipe. I have heard the BigGun puts out alot of low end torque.

all this amazes me actually, I do non know pam, i do not know who she works for, all the names she mentioned are unknown to me (exept cory ellis), what i do know is that from reading her posts in the past, she really knows her stuff, and as you can see she will give valid reasons behind her post!!! Why in the world anyone would recommend a big gun or a even bigger laugh white bros. pipe simply astonishes me!(unless they are the only ppl that make one for your machine) the pipe shootout showed exactly how tame all those pipes were! (400ex test tho). for big4x4, you want to crawl up a hill, this requires torque, which requires compression. I think you have my answer there! good luck

I don't know Pam either but I know some of the racers (at least who they are and how good those pros are) and what she said makes since to me.

Pam I'm getting a new Yamaha Big Bear or Wolverine and wanted a pipe for sound mainly. If I was to get one and use a K&N filter and a jet kit this would give me more mid and high end but very little if any gain in lowend if I'm correct. I have a hopped up scooter that has a pipe, big carb, and been ported and as you described in your above post happend to it. I did gain a ton of mid and high end but lowend was the same.
