Mickey,
What is your experience with the 350x motor. I was thinking of buying a quad with a TC modified 350x motor in it. Are they reliable. I know it doesn't use bearings on the cam like the 250x so I'm kinda reluctant to purchase the machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't go wrong with TC Racing. I think he (Tom Carlson) is better known on the AMA/AATVA Grand National circuit (MX & TTs), but my experience with him has been outstanding.

I used to race this series. I started out with Curtis Sparks, then switched to Mickey Dunlap, and ultimately wound up with TC. All of my motors were full-tilt Grand National motors. All three were fast although one self-destructed twice in three months - I'll let you guess which one. I honestly feel Tom builds the fastest, most reliable motor for the best price. Plus, he is located in PA and is super friendly to deal with.

Yeah, there's no question to me about TC racing's ability. I was asking about the reliability of a particular motor- the 350x. I know Mickey has been around for a long time and if anybody knows about the longevity of a motor, it's him. Also Mickey, is there a way to machine the head to put bearings on the cam? Thanks in advance.

97 Warrior,

The 500 kit is usually built here and runs about $2,600 to build it. It requires some special cylinder and case machining and it's best that I do it here. The kit comes with different cylinder, cam chain, rod, cam, valve springs, clutch springs, carb, pipe, port & flow, big bore and stroker. This will definitely even a mildly built Banshee and 400EX's. You can get a 435 or 446 kit and save about $700. The 446 is called my "Banshee killer" kit and if you want to build this one yourself, the machine work is straight forward - no special machining needed. The 500 is not an rpm engine - just a "torque monster". All the kits run 11:1 compression, pump gas and are very reliable. For more information, it's best you e-mail me. I'm not supposed to be on here doing business but since you asked it's not like I came on here advertising for myself.

MX Quadrider,

I am sure the 350X motor will be reliable but without knowing what compression ratio it's running it's hard to determine the longevity of the motor. TC builds good stuff. The 350X motors are strong and reliable - even better than the 400EX's. I would suggest if you buy it, taking the top end off and finding out for sure what is inside. One of the weak parts on all Honda's are the rocker arms. We can hard weld them for $110 for the set. We also have needle bearing cams that fit into your head without any machine work for about $250. Just make sure you run good quality oil such as a straight 40 weight and warm the motor up good before you ride and you shouldn't have any problem with the cam and the head as it is. You are always taking a chance buying a used motor so "let the buyer beware".

TC=814-723-3514 personally, I feel for all motor builders! Non are fast enough, and if you got yours on time I'd bet 2 didn't, it's just the way it is. And screw up just once and your a bad motor builder. I did get to meet Mr.Dunlap at the Cochranton Pa. poker run, I noticed his desire to talk to everyone that wanted advise or a question answered.

you are correct, none are fast enough. that is human nature. i have mickey's 446 kit and just sent the motor out to him this weekend to make it a 500. he is going to install a different 4th and 5th gear that is taller for more top end. with the 446 kit i max out very quickly. as for an engine builder, i wouldnt want the job. to many idiots out there. if they run them to lean, rich, out of oil or overheat them, it is the engine builders fault.
