Put in new top end on my Wolverine. What is the proper break in procedure when I start her up? Thanks

Here's the basic break-in procedure I follow, which seems to work well:

1. Go down to Wal-mart and buy some Valvoline Racing oil (40 wt). Get enough for 2 oil changes.

2. Make sure everything is torqued to the proper specs (especially the head/cylinder bolts). Add the Valvoline.

3. Rejet the carb -- follow the jetting info that came with any mods you installed -- if there's no jetting info, or you've done a few different things, the rule of thumb is with minor mods (pipe, filter, cam) go up 2 sizes on the main jet and leave everything else stock. For increased bore, go up 3 sizes on the mainjet and move the clip down one position on the needle (raising the needle one position). This is just for break in, it'll act rich.

4. Start the engine. DO NOT EVER allow a new engine to idle at low RPM's!!! Keep the engine at a high idle until it's warm enough to ride -- ride around for about a half an hour -- don't lug it or over-rev it, but ride fast enough to keep cooling air running over the engine.

5. Let the engine cool completely. Change the oil (use the Valvoline again) and re-check torque on the head bolts.

6. Ride the bike again -- this time for about an hour. You can ride relatively normally, just don't put a huge load on the engine (either by lugging or revving).

7. Dump the Valvoline, adjust the valves. Add your regular engine oil (Good stuff, Yamalube, Torco, ETC). If you've installed an aftermarket cam, take their advice and DON'T use synthetics.

8. Ride again, and jet for power (drop jet sizes by one step at a time until it cleans out and runs well from 1/2 to full throttle.

That's it!!
