After you install a pipe on the raptor you need to give it air to perform at it's best, the more "free" air the better. This will allow you to go up on the jetting. The best example of this is the Dirt Wheels shoot out, the company's that freed up the air box the most made the most hp with their pipes, because they then could go with bigger jetting. Simple more air lets you run more fuel equaling more horsepower. We have done extensive dyno work on this and I will tell you without a doubt, that if you don't at least get rid of 90% of the lid you will never make the bigger hp numbers. Now you know why going to a K & N with no lid is the best. And if you don't think I'm right try it yourself and see. If you go to this set up you can run larger jet sizes, again look at the Dirt Wheels article and you will see that the jet sizes on all of the runs with open are boxes go up according to how free the air flow.

Oh boy don't I feel stupid. Well then I think you should go buy a raptor then. Because that was some good advise I gave you, and I hate to see it go to waste!!!!!! ( just kidding about the buying the raptor thing )

the more air you can get in & out of your engine the more power it will make.

Question. I just mounted two K&N's directly to the carb boots and eliminated my airbox entirely. I have not ridden it yet but I am concerned about acceleration due to the pressure change, and the CV carbs being designed to work with a closed airbox.

In the past when I have fliped my air cleaner lid (to let in more air) on my '95 Chevy Tahoe my acceleration went south.

Is the same thing going to happen with the Raptor and my new filter setup??
