I'm thinking about putting one of these on my 400ex. It looks like it's a pretty easy job. I will need a new clutch lever, and the block off plate. Is that all I really need to know to get the job done?? Are there any tricks or common problems during installation?

I did it to my 400ex. I like it alot. It took me about 15 minutes. The hardest part is adjusting the clutch afterwards, but thats not even really hard. You will have to decide if want your bike to start only in neutral or all the time, even in gear. Both have their pros and cons. Mine cost $25. $15 for the clutch lever and $10 for the block-off. All my friends want me to do it to theirs too. My old cluch lever was in new like condition. I put the cr250 clucth lever on and its easier to pull the clutch lever in now.

Why do I need to decide whether or not to be able to start the bike in neutral only, or in gear?? Shouldn't I just be able to take the old clutch cable, and hook it up to the new clutch lever? I don't see how there would be any decision to make. I must be missing something.

If you take the old clutch lever off, it has a switch in it. That switch tells the motor that you are pulling in the clutch. Two wires will have nothing to plug into if you take the stock clutch lever off. You have three choices, maybe others i'm not thinking of, you can connect those two wires together and the bike will always start even if in gear and the clutch not pulled in, or leave them disconnected and only be able to start in neutral(thats what I did), or you take the switch out of the old clutch lever and mount it to you bars somehow and have to push the button all the time(unless your in neutral). The last way is probable the safest but the most inconvenient.

Thanks Chad for asking this question. I'm thinking about doing it also. Let me know how you make out. What clutch lever are you going to buy?

Just ordered the block-off plate and a PEP EZ-pull clutch lever from Denton Racing. It should be here in a few days. I'll let you know how it works out for me after I get it all installed and all of the wires and cables in the right places.
