OK, I'm new to the ATV world. I've been reading about plug chops to check for correct jetting.

What the heck is a plug chop [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img] and how does it help determine correct jetting?

 

To do a plug chop, you simply take a grinder or dremel tool with a cut off tool and cut the threads off of the plug. Just cut through the metal and cut all the way around the plug. Then slip the threaded part carefully over the porcelein. This lets you inspect the entire porcelein part. It tells you about timing and rich/lean condition. If the coloring is brown, the jetting is okay. The color should be halfway up the porcelein for correct timing. For most engines, you don't have to be this precise. Most people have never chopped a plug. Hope this helps.
