i am currently working on shoehorning a kx 500 motor into a tecate 4 chassis.
what i'm looking for is ideas and some sort of rubber mounts to cut down on the vibration.does anyone have any good ideas or have built anything like this with rubber style motor mounts.
i'm looking to cut down on the vibration a little and i already have a antivibe steering stem, but i'm sure that won't quite be enough.
if anyone has pics of up close conversions using some type of antivibe mounts that would be great and very helpful .thanks everyone i'm sure one of the brains on this site will pull through with a good idea that will work.maybe even more then one of you.

i suppose since it's a tecate nobody wants to talk about it huh?i bet if i were putting a cr 500 motor in a 250 chassis i would have plenty of replies by now or a yz 426 motor in a banshee chassis or something.

i need to change the headline to raptor needs help.than i know i'll get some responces.

I have a friend that has built 2 of the KX/Tecate quads, so I will check with him to see what he did. I have put a couple of laps on one of these bikes, and it is quick. However, you could probably turn the same hp out of a good built 250, and not have to worry about shaking yourself apart. No matter what mounts you use, you will still have massive vibrations.

the other people are absolutely right.when you have a serious tech question no one wants to give you any feedback or input.but if i could start a flame or an arguemant about whats better or faster then i would have a bunch of replies.
[b] come on people help a fella out here, ineed some ideas for mounting this motor and trying to rubber mount it is presenting quite callenge.

LOL! I'm the complete opposite! I really wanna help a fellow shoe-horner out and hate it when flaming happens...

some things I've heard/know

try to get the lightest piston, circlip and ring combo you can. Wiseco ultra-lite or something... The lighter your combonation, the lighter your rescipicating mass will be, lowering vibration

Rubber motor mounts are tricky. I'm not using them for this project, (RMLT) until I figure them out or something like that... i understand how to make them, but it's beyond my current resources and may not need to be done.

Fill the frame up with expanding foam... LOL... yeah, you heard me... That's what I've been told.

Get brass handle bar inserts! I really like what I've heard about them, and are stock on a lot of motorcycles and are removed for weight reduction by some riders, those riders complain of very noticable vibration and end up putting them back in.

I was told to fill up my bars with... yeah, you guessed it, EXPANDING FOAM. I will never try that on my good bars! Maybe my old steelies...

Aluminum motor mounts weigh less than steel, but transmit vibration more... I'm running aluminum for my front mounts and steel for the head mount...

Roll design foot pegs are used by the big bomb' guys complaining their 650's vibrate too much.

Thicker diameter bars like Tag's T2s or Answer's Pro Tapers...

That's all I can remember right now... Now can I ask you a question? Who made that anti-vibe stem? Is that a custom piece?

well i had herrmann racing send me one of thier anti vibe stems, but with only about 8inches oof stem attached to the upper mounts and then i cut off my top of my steering stem, then i machine down the stemm to slide inside of the base of the other and then straightened it and tig welded it. and i'm thinking that it's stronger then the original now.

What year KX500 are you planning on using? Do you own the engine yet?

Maybe you should look into getting the engine balanced. That should cure a lot of vibration, but I've never really found out how much it costs to get done...

Does the kx motor have a motor mount that connects to the cylinder head?? If it doesn't have one you could easily fabricate a bracket for one. I know this would help a lot. I read an article before on a yz250 powered blaster and they had some vibration issues. They then fabricated a "head stay" and it reduced the vibes significantly. Hope this helped some.

KillerKX,
I know this is off the subject but, Did you by that T4 off ebay or was it yours and you were selling it? Thats the SWEETEST Tecate Ive ever seen!!!! Good luck with you project. I just shoehorned a lt500 motor in a lt250 chassis. It is fun. You`ll like it.
