Dyno...air flow....????????

Perhaps some tuning was required to switch between the two.

No flaming intended, I would just like some clarification to the dyno reference.

I use the 1" vents without the little filters and find this greatly increases the amount of air passing through the 1" holes. I saw no need to leave the filters in the vents, afterall the snorkel doesn't have and sort of filter. I do recommend drilling the holes on the lid in a manner so that if water were to flow through the hole it wouldn't drip right onto the air filter.

I KEEP READING ABOUT REJETTING WHEN YOU OPEN THE AIRBOX OR MODIFY IT. DOES THIS HAVE TO BE DONE TO A STOCK 400 EX WITH OUT ANY MODS? I PLAN ON GETTING AN EXHAUST SYSTEM AND A K&N POWER KIT LATER, BUT I WANTED TO DO SOMETHING THAT CAN GELP A LITTLE NOW.

To make horsepower you need airflow. The smoother that airflow is and the more you have available then more horsepower can be made (The idea behind blowers to make more power by supplying more air and gas to make a bigger boom, in turn giving you more power). Since more air availabe in turn allows an engine to make more power, sometimes people like to test such things as airfilters to see which ones flow the most clean air. Thus they use equipment like a "Dyno" to show exactly what kind of airflow they are getting. And on a test, it was shown that a properly oiled 2-stage foam filter flows more air than a K&N with an Outerwares installed. The K&N alone flows more air (And dirt) than a good foam filter. But the outerwares restricts the flow enough to allow a good foam filter to out perform a K&N with an Outerwares in both airflow and filtering capabilities. Thus you are able to make more horsepower and in turn go faster through the trails or around a race track, and your engine will still last a long time.

Hope my reference was clear this time.

jeez i didn't think such a simple question would spark so many different opinions...

i was thinking i would probably get the motoforce lid, so then when its really muddy out or after a hard rain when all of the streams i have to cross are seat-deep i can put my stock lid back on

How in the world does a dyno tell you how much a filter flows?? That is impossible. Dynos have nothing to do with flow rates. Now a flow bench will tell you everything. But a dyno? A dyno gives you an overall reading of the engines hp curve. It has no way of showing if your getting twice the flow.
