MY TIRES ARE 18", SHORTER SWINGARM. WILL A 14/38 WORK GOOD OR HAS ANY ONE HAD BETTER LUCK WITH AN OTHER RATIO??
YOUR HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

14/38 would probably work pretty well. I have seen people running 14/39 too. I know that most of the Pros run 14/37. I am probably going to use the 14/38 for my CT RAVE 250R. I may switch to a 37 in back though because the tracks here in Michigan are pretty fast.

I run 14/38 for MX on my 330R also. I am going to play with 15/38, because I raced several national riders the past few weeks, including Leslie Wells who has a full Race TC 250R and another national rider on a WR400F powered quad. I ran taller trail type tires (21 inchers vs the normal 18 inchers) for the loose and rutty track, but stayed with my 18 inch tire (14/38) gearing. Anyway, I don't get my usual holeshot (Darn close though), because it hooks up too much out of the hole. But that thing flat-out hauls down the straights and I blow by everyone within a turn or two and I am able to run the entire track in one gear. So I am going to try taller gearing with my turfs to see how it works out (Might work great at fast tracks like Red Bud). I can't say if that gearing will work for a 250 or 310 due to less torque. But what works best for each rider and bike is only found by experimenting a little. For example my engine puts out way more bottom to mid-range torque than a buddies CT350, so thats what allows mine to pull so hard with taller gearing (and stay in one gear), whereas you probably want to shift a 250 more to keep it revving, thus maximizing its speed through proper gearing to keep it on the pipe.

Good Luck,

Sickman
