Drag race help
#1
I need to know what will make me faster on a 100 yard dirt drag strip. I have a cannondale cannibal with a hmf pipe and the moto map. One guy kept beating me even though he had a stock pipe and map. Someone told me he went to a 14 tooth gear in the front instead of the stock 13 tooth. They said he was starting in third gear and only shifting one time compared to me starting in second and having to shift twice. Would this make a big difference? What can I do to beat him next weekend? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend you do a search on the subject as I have seen this topic discussed recently.
I gotta say though, mountainman10, after reading your posts elsewhere I got the impression that you had the be-all end-all super-fast untouchable Cannibal. I am surprised to see you on here asking for help - repeatedly.
Maybe if your search doesn't turn up the answers you need some of the drag racers on the slow Basnhees, Raptors or DS's will help you out. Good luck.

I wasn't trying to say my bike was the fastest. I was saying that cannondales in general are the fastest. I was really just trying to get a rise out of the honda guys. I know I personally am not the best drag racer and I dont really care if I win the whole thing or not I just like to have fun and would like to beat the other guys riding dales. Lets be realistic if a 250R comes in and is built to race then I dont have a chance. There is just so much you can do with them. Cannondales really did come in 1, 2, 3 at last weekends races I was third. The reason I came in third was that one of the guys was just flat out better than me and the other one had his best run of the night against me. But there were some very experienced riders on other bikes that I beat simply because the dales are so much faster. I just want to know what will get me faster than the other dales I am racing.

Actually, I know you were mainly trying to get a rise out of the Honda guys. You were laying it on pretty thick for a new guy though.
I read the thread in the C-Dale forum and I have to say that your times were a bit on the slow side but I'm sure that will improve with practice and getting your technique down.
The C-Dales are fast for a 400 class 4 stroke but the 2 strokes and 650 class guys will eat your lunch without too much effort. It's ewasy to pick on the Honda guys because there's no contest but the Yamaha and Bomb guys are a lot faster.
Anyway, good luck with your drag racing and let us know how your times do - there are quite few guys that are into that here.

Please, correct me if I am wrong. If this other fella put a larger sprocket 14 tooth on the front, it would give it a little more on the top end, but it wouldn't allow it to take out in a higher gear, it would bog even more. you might try droping a tooth in the front, and going up one or two in the rear if needed. I would start with down one in the front and see how it works. Although you may go up a tooth or two, and carry each gear a little farther, and it would help cut down the tendancy to wheelie especially going out in first(it may not eliminate it).

Your drag times of 6.5 to 6.3 are comparable to times of a stock 250R
The track that I race at is 100 yards and my "honda" averages times of 5.28 et. I still haven't finished tuning my bike yet so I have a lot more to go. My 2 cents from a honda guy

I wasn't talking about 2-strokes. I was talking about 4-stroke bikes that you can go to the dealer and buy now. And about my times. The track was junk. There were some pro riders that came down last night and they ran at another track the night before and they said they were a full second slower at the track I rode because it has no grip. I didn't know much about what good conditions were but the pro riders said they would never be back. I beat 2 250r's and 3 banshees that were stock and every 4-stroke I ran. The modified banshees and 250r's killed me. It is just unrealistic to put a four stroke machine up against a banshee with 100hp and a 4 foot rear swingarm. They didnt even split the machines up in to different classes. I was a little better this week though. I used some of the tips I got on the forum and ran consistant in the 6.2 second range with a best time of 5.98. I think a different rider could do even better because this is only the second time that I have ever raced.
