lt250R Crankshaft Install (Help!!!!)
I need to reset my crankshaft from a 87 LT250R in the left crankcase and my book said you needed a special tool for this. I called my dealer to get a price and he told me all I need to do was heat up the case with a heat gun and the crankshaft would slide right into place. Have anybody heard of this? I have heard of this for replacing seals and bearings. Also is it strange that the crankshaft came out of the case without any special tool? It slid right out. Any info on this would be great.

Are you talking about the crankshaft separating tool? You don't need that. Nice to have if you have a stubborn crank that won't pop out, or you are working on 5 motors a day, but it should come out with a little love tap from a rubber mallet. By the way, what do you mean by reset? What was your motor doing?

Thanks for the help. What I meant by reset was, putting the crankshaft back into the left crankcase. The book said to not remove the crankshaft from the left crankcase and not to try to put it back into the left crankcase without the tool for it? My crankshaft appears to go right back into place, but I wasn't sure if this was ok because of the all knowing "BOOK"
The crank was fine I had just blown a piston and I split the case to insure it was cleaned out before installing my new piston. Any additional info would be great. Thanks again

I have had some cases go together easy and some that would not. The hard ones I heat the cases in the over for a while and freeze the crank with main bearings on it.
The heat expands the case and the cold shrinks the bearings and they go together very easy.
just make sure you lube the bearing well before you freeze them.
BTW if you are worried about the bearing being too lose in the case you can always use some "loctite retaining compound" for bearing and shaft slip fitted parts... "it works by filling the space between components and cure to form a strong precision assembly.
this will prevent a spun bearing and still allow removal if you use a general puropse compound.

Thanks....This forum is so much better then any of the other ATV sites I've posted questions on. You guys actually take the time to answer questions and help!!! Motor is back together and everything seems smooth.....now lets up it fires up.
