You can find the mag at local retail stores. I also started my project the other night. I am using the 250R suspension and we fabricated new front shock mounts and moved them to match the 250R geometry. We also fabricated a linkage for the rear shock linkage. I completely ground off the upper left rear motor mount and are fabricating a new one. That will be removeable to allow the engine to be removed easier. I am cutting a notch in the frame for the oil cooler line instead of grinding on the head of the bolt. We are reinforcing that area so it won't be weak. We are also gusseting several places along the frame to reinforce the high stressed points. I had my motor sitting in the frame and it looks like it was made to go there. I am hoping to have all the frame modifications done by the end of the week. I do have a question for you does the powroll exhaust come out in front of the frame rail or does it go around it?

Hey you guys,

I know I have talked to some of you about this conversion already.

I did this conversion a few years ago. I am in the process of rebuilding my TRX 350x now. Hopefully I will have some good pictures of the conversion on my web site very soon. I just haven't had time to update the site because I have been working on the quad. I will also have information on exchanging the 250x a-arms for 250r a-arms and even more. So don't give up on me yet. I am close to having a finished bike. Then I can update the site.

Brad, I know that I have spoken to you before and you have been a lot of great help. I have been looking at the oil cooler and was wondering how you mounted yours on the 250X?
I am using the 86 style 250R A-Arms. Apperantly the bushing on these are bigger than the other years. I had to grind off the Plastic bushing ends to allow enough room for them to move freely. Other than that they should mount on without any problems. I can't wait to see your pictures. I am taking some of my as I go along on the project. I will send you a picture of the completed bike when I am done.

got my engine bolted in last night, I did have to end up grinding down the oil bolt a little, I didint feel like grinding away @ my frame. I have got the entire exhaust on, the header goes around the frame, not in fron of it, also powroll said that the decompression thing down by the kickstart would hit the exhaust, and it did, they gave me part #'s for one of a xr500 that they said would work, all it did is bend it so it curves around the top of the caseing and stays away from the exhaust and it still works. That god damn oil cooler, this morning I went and had high pressure/temp lines put on my cooler, about 2' so I am going to run it somewhere, I dont know where yet though. anyhow last night I hooked It up and let it hang out of the engine just to get it running, we did the wireing. we probobally should have used the entire wireing off the 350x, but we did it the powroll way, step 1 is the cdi, there are 6 wires going to that, a block of 4 and a block of 2, on the block of to, you need to clip that end off and switch the wires around. (colors are black/red switches with white/black) we did this and then pluged the 350x cdi in, there is also somthing else you have 2 do but I cant remember this morning. after that put the carb and gastank back on (still no fenders and oil cooler hanging out) kicked her over a few times and she started! first time I heard the engine run, she is loud, sounds bad as hell, cant wait to get her rollin.

1 ques, where do u put the oil cooler? I am going to have like 2' of play now with my new hoses. I am going to pick them up 2night
thankx 4 all the info, I will keep ya posted

Oil cooler location,

Well this can be tricky. I can tell you there is no simple bolt on installation for the oil cooler. However you mount it custom mounts will have to be made. Maybe I can guide you a little until I get my pictures done.

The best place I found for the oil cooler was directly behind the front bumper. I took two samll pieces of thin flat steel and drilled holes in either end. I connected the top piece to the front left fender brace bolt (the one on the frame), then the flat metal will have to be bent back towards the middle of the frame and then back straight again. So it will look like this.

Pretend those are connected.
This can be bolted to the top oil cooler mount.

Next the bottom can be done in a similiar fashion, but use the top left bumper bolt for holding the metal to the frame.

In this position the oil cooler will still have good airflow and allow wnough clearnce to bend the rubber lines up to it.

I have my lines run on either side of the steering stem at the bottom of the frame.

I hope this helps some

Brad, Did you have to bend the oil cooler lines at all to install it by the front bumper? Or did you get aftermarket lines like Krabill?

Not a bit,

I cut my factory oil lines in the rigid metal section. That way the lines come from the motor. Route over the front right motor mount. Then I have several inches of metal pipe to connect my (bought) rubber lines to. The rubber lines are then routed on either side of the steering stem. Then they turn upwards to the metal lines hanging down from the oil cooler.

finished it this weekend, I mounted the oil cooler up front on its side and ran the hoses to the block and she works, I put everything back together and it runs good, well not like I expected though, It has a little more speed than the old 250 motor, but not much, whats up with this, I am using the old 250 carb like Powroll said to do, should I do this? Is there anything I can do to really hop up a 350x engine? (w/o sending it off), thankx

Are you using an aftermarket airfilter or stock? you can switch to an aftermarket filter and rejet. Another solution would be to add more discs to the pipe. I think you can add up to 20 discs and they come with 12. Would realy need some more information as to what exactly it isn't doing.
I worked on my quad and I have almost completed the modifications. The DG Head Pipe worked out well. We cut about 1 1/2 inches off the end and put it back together and the pipe now clears the frame. It goes in between the motor and the frame. This has allowed me to mount the oil cooler like on the 250R in front of the front frame rails. I will build some brackets and shorten the oil lines to mount the cooler in that spot. I am working on getting the rest of it done this week and hope to be out riding by the weekend.
