Default Which 400ex cam and carb is best

Posted this under honda, but, no one has answered. I have a 440, port, polish, full exhaust, k&n air filter, 12-1 compression, and will put wb rev box on this weekend. Which cam and carb is the best?

Are you a exriders.com member, if not go there. You have a 440 without a cam in it?

Yep, no aftermarket cam. My builder was supposed to send me a cam, but, forgot. It still runs verrry strong(ported and polished).

Many ex owners have used the xr400 cam or the Hotcams. As far as the carb, you can either modify yours for an improvment or get an 39mm FCR from servicehonda.com

I wouldn't recomend a hot cam for an ex
my buddy has one and he had it installed for about 6 ridding hours.......and the gears stripped off of the cam!
bad deal........but hot cam easily exchanged it for a new one............but they did say that it had happened b4 and knew exactly what I was talking bout when I told them what happened!

not a good sign

The gears stripping off was a problem with the initial cams that they put out, but they have addressed and fixed that issue. Go to their site and email them, or call them. They have top notch customer support, and if you have a problem with one of their products, they will take care of you very quickly. I've heard alot of good talk about them on other forums, and just bought a stage 2 cam for my EX. Of course, there is a JE 10.8:1 piston going in there with it )
