Scrambler 500 electrical problem
#1
Hey my 1999 Scrambler 500 electric start will not work. I turn the key on and the neutral light comes, headlights, tail light, and winch all work. I just got a new battery and solenoid. The only thing different about the solenoid is that it has 4 posts(2 big and 2 small) and the old solenoid had 3 posts(2 big 1 small). The white and red wire went to to the little post. But now the new solenoid come with a wire attached to each little post.
I read somewhere that if you put a key across the big posts it will crank over and it did. What does this mean.
I don't not understand electrical at all

Is this a replacement Polaris solenoid or an aftermarket one? Solenoids were updated and and the top main post was to the battery, bottom post to the starter, one smaller post to ground and the other hooked to the small original white/red wire coming from the ignition switch. It's been a while, might be wrong on the ground post? Think it(brown or black wire?) grounded to the back of the solenoid at the battery box? OPT

Crossing a screwdriver across the points just closes the circuit, bypassing the solenoid. A solenoid is just a big junction for your starter wires. It closes the circuit when you turn the key to allow electricity to flow to the starter, then opens the circuit when the key returns.
