Default excitor coil

Just confirming something. I have a 93 Polaris 350 that the cb shaft seal went bad in. I replaced the seals and bearing, when they went bad , coolant leaked into the stator area and corroded it a bit. After putting everything back together and trying to start I found I had no spark. I tested everything including the excitor coil, which read 450 ohms. I pulled it out and found a burn hole in the wrapped housing right down to the copper coils. My question is.... Would this cause it to give absolutley no spark at all or just real weak? I ordered a new excitor coil today. I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my money.

Yes,the exciter coil could stop it from having spark or could have a very weak spark. If the main charge(source coil) ohms out ok this is the cheapest way to go. OPT

Yep main coil ohms out good. Exciter coil has a hole burnt in the housing, prob from getting wet when cb seals went bad. And it ohms out at 450 in stead of 120. Im picking up a new one tomorrow. So here goes nothin. Thanks again by the way.

Got the new Exciter soldered in, put everything back together and it fired right up and runs great.

Ok, now the starter has issues, it spins fine but won't engage the fly wheel. Any thoughts, aside from beating on it with a hammer?

Sounds like you either need to clean up the starter gear shaft (bendix) and grease it up or it may need to be replaced if the garter spring is weak, rusty and just wont kick out and retract back. Plus you can't get all the parts needed to repair one totally, especially the counter weights if they are damaged.. Be sure to check the bushing in the recoil where it rides for any galling also. You have to either pull the flywheel back off to replace it if you need to OR pull the starter. Think the flywheel way is a lot easier If it needs replacing try this place: http://www.dbelectrical.com/c-1789-polaris.aspx
