Default Clutch Question

I am working on a 2005 Sportsman MV7, it needs a new Primary Clutch, I only have a clutch for a 500 Sportsman. Will it work on the MV7 as long as the correct weights and springs are used?

Never measure the crankshaft dimension on the 700 engine versus the 500,but if the same on the pto(clutch side of the crank shaft ) don't see why it wouldn't work. OPT

the clutch that came off of the 700, is the width if the belt. The other clutch i have slides in and out, when the 700 does not, and the shaft is smaller, on the clutch, but fits on the engine side shaft, will the belt still work?

Not exactly understanding what you're saying, but if any doubts then best to replace with clutch the 700 calls for as the 700 and 500 clutches do have different part numbers!Plus belts may be different on the 700 and 500(depending on model) which I didn't think about earlier! OPT

If you're in that hell hole,I'd give it a try any way Be careful and I don't mean with just the clutch! Give it a good test first around locally before you take it anywhere that you could become stranded. OPT

well, tried the 500 clutch, changed the weights, seam to work for the first 10 min, then would not go anywhere. So, I got the correct clutch in, put it on, then found out the engine was shot, so replacing the engine now, dont know if the 500 clutch caused it, but when I first got the thing in, it was 1 1/2 quarts low on oil. I was hoping they had not messed the engine up while running low on oil, don't know how long it was like that.

700 and 800 engines(especially in the hard driven Razr) were bad about using oil. I've had some come into the shop close to a quart low from people not keeping a close eye on oil level. I never did think the dipstick also was that accurate as two quarts of oil would usually show above the full mark on a lot of engines, but 2 quarts in itself isn't enough oil imo for these machines! Have seen plenty of 700's that the engines went south on,with oil or without! Usually the rod bearings go first. Hard to find anyone other than race shops that can rebuild the crank itself or offer aftermarket cranks. If it's the crank best to go with oem. Keep us updated. OPT

i have a brand new engine on hand, so it should just be a easy swap.
