having some issues scrambler 400l
#1
ok whats up yall, ive been tring to fix this tank for several months. limited on time, but now it is riding season and my son would like to get fixed. 99 scrambler 400l. ive changed the stator, coil, plug, voltage reg,rev limiter, new piston and rings bored 40 over, cleaned the carb 3 times just to make sure. this thing will idle all day long and i mean all day long. as soon as u hit the throttle little past idle it wants to fall on its face. it will back fire once if u just hold the throttle fully open, but just wont do anything after that. will idle all day though. please help so i can enjoy some riding time with my boy. the fattman

I'd unplug the black lead from the rev limiter even if it's new! It's also tied in with the etc switch in the throttle, plus check that the etc switch is operating ok and trace the wires for any shorts. Plus could be as simple as a split reed, intake manifold split, plus if you just cleaned the carb and didn't replace the needle and seat, float arm if worn or even missing the rubber dampener underneath the carb on the transmission which would cause it to dump fuel.Sounds like you've replaced all electrical except the cdi module.

the thing is this thing was running one minute like a dream. doing some donuts and then just sounded like the engine was running out of fuel. new reeds, glued intake manifold so im at a lost. took black wire off still runs. i am about to just add some fuel and a match.....boom

Just recheck what you've done! The etc switch is usually not a problem area, reverse limiter can be eliminated by just pulling the black wire. Make sure the carb jets are open and fuel is clean. Plus according to the manual don't intermix electrical parts like rev limiters with different year model cdis and stators as they may not be compatible and cause intermittent electrical problems. You said you replaced stator, coil, rev limiter, regulator, etc. Were they new parts, used parts, specific for your year model?? Plus a simple electrical resistance check might help if it's narrowed down to an electrical problem. Pulse coil White to Red/White should be around 97 ohms resistance. Between the Red to Red/ black stator wires to cdi should show around 440 ohms.

i have a yellow with red, yellow, brown with white, black with red, white, brown wire coming out of the stator. there is a brown, white, blue, black and brown wires coming out of the cdi.

Should have a White/Red wire and White that goes to the pulse coil? Is this stator an oem specific replacement for your year model, used one from Ebay?? See what reading you get with White to Brown/white...
