All mechanical parts of the 400 2 stroke were basically the same from the time they came on in 1994 Sportsman,ScramblerExplorer, etc to the last year model Trail Blazer 400 in 2003. Some electric wiring and module differences between models. Weak link between the 2 stroke versus 4 stroke was longevity, especially on the top ends which is normal for 2 strokes. You need to keep on top of maintenance especially keeping air filters clean, etc. Plus this a complicated engine with a counter balancer that operates an internal water pump and external oil pump that was subject to water and dirt from being located at the front of the engine. Just study the 400 engine section breakdown on the service manual link I posted and get familiar with it.

Seems there slug brown in top end am guessing water pump seals. Compression was 150. Thinking they sink it? Going to break motor down. Replace seals and gaskets see where am at then.

New to 2stroke but my friend works on dirt bikes so with both of us should be able to figure it out. Other polaris was camshaft and exhaust rockerarm so I order new part numbers.

490 pounds Scrambler 400, 640 pounds Sportsman 500. Look at the 1st chapter in your manuals under General Information!
