Finally got my 04 Sportsman 700 EFI running. It seems to run great but there is no tach. It doesn't register anything. One of my fuses in the four fuse panel corroded so bad that I had to jam something in with the new fuse to get in against one side of the terminal. Perhaps this is part of my issue?
Also, coming from the stator I have one wire that isn't connected to the plug. I'm not sure which one I should connect it to. I'm guessing the bottom one like the other two but am unsure. I think this could be my issue.

Also, where does the yellow wire go that comes out of the harness of the stator by the front diff?

 

Fuse block was a problem on both the 700 and 800 models. Pull the block up,look underneath it for any loose corroded wiring.Could be part of the problem you're having.Plus tach gets it's rpm signal from the stator.Service manual has several tests on the speedo harness wiring, plus you can't beat a wiring schematic when you're tracing down wiring problems.If you don't have the manual for your machine here's about as cheap as you can get one for. 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI Service Manual PDF Download

 

Think I'm going to wire inline fuses and eliminate the fuse block. It has to be nasty on the underside. The diagram doesn't seem great for the stator wires.

I wouldn't use inline fuses unless you stock up on a few and have them at all times when they blow.Just clean up the fuse block and you can seal the bottom with silicone to protect from water.The speedo tests for different functions can help solve a lot of problems,along with the resistance specs given for the stator,etc.Problem may end up being in the speedo itself after you go through the tests and they check out. With the wiring schematic if you take your time tracing wires on it it's fairly easy to see where everything goes to help tie up any loose ends.

 

Need to trace the wires. I replaced the fuse block with one i found at autozone and I redid the connector from stator to regulator. Still no tach. My speedo and 4wd work so maybe I should just not worry about it.

 

If you can't find the problem with wiring along with the speedo tests,possible the speedo isn't getting the rpm signal. Signal is supposed to come from the stator through the voltage regulator then through the ecm to the speedo. May be hard to trace. Main thing is that is that it runs good,you have the rest of the speedo functions and you have awd.
