Sportsman Front Axle Instalation

Now I've got both struts off, because I screwed up and released one of the shocks by loosening the wrong clamp bolt to reinstall the brake hose strap.
I have a set of spring compressors so I figured I'll just adjust both shocks.
The book says when replacing the shock, to seat it in the strut casing.
Mine were 2" in from the bottom of the strut casing.
I've adjusted them both to, 1 1/2" in from the bottom of the casing.
That's 1 1/2" from the bottom of strut casing.
Where should the bottom of my shock really be?
I looked at a few strut assemblies on eBay and none are seated all the way in.
What would you recommend?
Thank you sir

Really up to the individual on this. I always just seated new cartridges as most factory ones were. Some people liked them up a little. Your choice as to seated, 1",1 1/2". Just takes a little more effort compressing the spring. You go any further than 2" you put a lot of added stress on the top part of the cartridge. I've seen some cartridges creased/bent if they hit something really stout.

Will shorten it a tad,but not that critical either way as long as you don't raise the cartridge too high. You might even consider some heavy duty springs such as Epi,etc or spacers if you want a firmer ride and since you have the struts off.Plenty of info on this in the forum and other sites.
