02 polaris scrambler 500 no spark
#1
Hello i have a 02 polaris scrambler 500 4x4 H.O. Model and im havin a problem with spark. The bike sat in a car port for about 3 months while transmission was worked on. The other weekend i put it back in and went to fire bike up it had spark and it started after trying to start it for awhile. Then it wouldnt start again I have replaces the pick up coil, stator, ignition coil, spark plug l, spark plug boot, the fuse in the back of the bike, put fresh gas in it. I hear about this throttle sencer and if it does have atleast 1/8 inch play it wont have spark so i adjusted it. When bike was sitting i did try to take thumb trottle off to put on another bike but i need help!.?

Seems like you've mentioned everything except the carb. Did you at least clean it or install a carb kit? Check for fuel flow to the carb? Sometimes cleaning one may not help if it has sticking needle and seat or other problems. Plus if it sat for as little as three months without fuel stabilizer(sometimes even if it had stabilizer) carb bowls can dry up,jets, especially pilot jets can get stopped up with a white powder residue as a result of ethanol fuel attracting water.Found this out the hard way myself.

I didnt think the carb would cause no spark i know its gettinf fuel because we drained all the gas out tank and drained the bowl wouldnt start on starter fuild and it will back fire so i know its getting gas

Nope wouldn't cause a no spark condition but may come into play later when you do regain spark. As long as you didn't damage the etc contacts in the throttle housing when you tried to remove it,correct slack on the thumb lever, contacts not touching, then I'd check into the left control switch and wiring. This is a problem area for a lot of machines, especially ones that sit in damp climates. May just need the connectors and pins inside the switch housing cleaned. Plus toggle the on/off switch several times to help remove any corrosion build up on it's contact points. This can cut spark if the switch or wiring shorts out or it's not making a good contact.

If you haven't checked the left control switch, connectors and wiring,I'd check this out for any shorts.Plus controls are bad about corrosion and dirt causing problems. Pull the black wire from the cdi and see if it has spark then. If it does could be because of the left control switch on/off switch problems or even the ignition switch wiring.Plus if any of the electrical parts you've replace are aftermarket parts, could be a problem. Best still to have a manual than can help you trouble shoot with it's guides, wiring schematic and resistance checks.2002 Polaris Scrambler 500 Service Manual PDF Download
