battery died

This 5 buck manual is a bargain. Then you won't have to listen to me or your friends! Well worth the money on charging check out and on future repairs/service. Just look in the electrical section under charging and you might be surprised at all the tests to track down what is probably the cause.http://visit.tradebit.com/visit.php/...75/264163234/9

Okay the volt meter started peeping when I plugged the red into the 10amp jack... but it came back to 6.4 amps

Nope.. Just that a lot of people's problems,frustration can be solved by the simple tests in service manuals.. That's why I'm a stickler you might say on people that do their own repairs to have one. If you have the meter set on ac amperage,engine at an idle and readings is 6.4 amps at an idle,then the stator checks out..

Okay phew I understand u hAve helped me many times and I am only one person. I will Def get the manual. Just one more question the resistance I got from testing the yellow wires and the black does that sound like the rectifer is bad?

You ONLY check out the yellow wires to each other and each yellow to ground! Don't test the other wires. You should get a reading between each yellow,plus NO yellow should short to ground.

I must not understand because I thought that is what I did. The black I assumed is ground.

Regulators,even after market ones may have one or two different wire colors. Usually you have a Red,Yellow,Yellow/red or yellow/ brown, a brown or black wire. Just color code the new one to the wires that match,the one that's left will go to one wire that's left. Really that simple. Again only test the yellow wires to make sure they don't short out to each other or ground!

I am sorry I am still confused, if the black wire is ground than I believe that all I tested what the yellows to each other and each yellow by itself to the black ground wire. And I got a reading each time never saying zero. The two yellows came back to 238.3, the solid yellow and the black (ground) came back to 14.96 and the yellow-red to black (ground) came back to 223.2. So I was wondering if because the yellow to black only came back to 14.96 if the orignal regulator is bad? Not trying to be difficult I just sat here re reading our conversation and I just don't understand if I tested it wrong or wat. The one I am testing is the regulator that Is on the machine. Also when I clicked on the link for the manual the security/Norton said do not continue.

By saying ground I mean either to the frame or any BROWN wire such as the ones tied to the coil mounting bolt. Forget about the black wire in the regulator. Your testing for the reading between the yellow wires to each other and each yellow to ground. If any connection zeros out,diodes have shorted out then the regulator is faulty.This test is not always accurate,but since you've done the ac test(6.4 amps) regulator would be my best guess since it's not charging 14 volts back to the battery. Hope this clears this up.
