Default Trail Boss 250 & Explorer 300

I have a Polaris Trail Boss and Explorer but don't know what years they are. I have found some numbers on the Explorer plastic intake. Numbers are 6/19/96 & 5131006-03 Is this the year Model. Nothing on the frame.

Tailboss has 1 number on the frame its *1467333* does anybody know what this is?

On these older models look on the right frame down tune. Should show a "W94-96",etc. This is the model year. If you still have the engine serial number on the recoil, first two digits is the year model also.

I have 2 serial numbers on this model. It says 96 on the coil tag and 99 on the tag below the shifter.

If you still have number on the engine, should look like this. Plus newer model 17 digit vin#'s are are on the driver side lower frame behind the a-arm.

Ok I have looked all over the 250 and can't find anything. I will look over it again. The 300 had 2 stickers on it one on the coil cover and it said 96 and sticker below the shifter said 99. The engraved number on the A frame said 09/03/96 I think.

Probably a 96,as far as the shift box it may have been a replacement. Couple different vin decoder sites, don't know if they'll help, seems the old Polaris site is down. VIN View /// AnalogX VIN Decoded: 4XAXH76A8AD092394

I will go with a 96 on the Explorer. Don't know what to do with the Trail Boss. Don't know if it's so old it didn't have a VIN. Trying to figure out which Haynes manuel to order

The Explorer has a fan up front but nothing behind it so I guess I gotta get a blower. The Boss has no fan,how is it cooled?

Explorer 300 is a dry sump engine with remote oil tank. Why it really needed a fan I don't know as most times the fans would hardly kick on.Fan sensor is on the rear engine mount and not on the engine. Has to get super hot for a fan to kick on. Not needed in my opinion. 250 is similar to the 300,but is air cooled only.Plus a lot of times these sensors broke from vibration.Better imo if you want the fan, just wire it up to a toggle switch. Item#13 is the sensor for the fan.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks for the help. Don't think I will worry about the fan. I got these 2 atv for my kids for Christmas. They won't be riding them for hours and over heating. Do you think the Haynes manuel is the best book. I don't know much about this and was going to get it and have a project with the boys.
