2000 Trail Boss 325 Issues

Check that you have slack at the thumb throttle,1/8" max. If you have good slack at the throttle lever, idle adjuster doesn't help, then check for any cable binding that could be holding the carb throttle valve(butterfly) open a little.Plus not a bad idea to recheck that the spring and small e clip and washer in carb slide for the slide needle are positioned right if you can't find a bind in the cable.

So I think I have found the problem. The throttle cable, that goes from the throttle lever to the carb is acting weird. I tried to adjust it but heres the thing, when I turn the handle bars to the right the throttle increases, but when I turn it to the left the throttle doesnt change much. So I started playing with the cable, if I hold it still near the carb and pull it up and down closer to the throttle lever it increases the idle or if I try to mess with near it does the same thing. Do you think I should try to zip tie it down to stuff on the body so it moves as little as possible?
Also I seem to have fixed the idle by adjusting the cable at the point in the cable, just when you play with the cable (not at the access point adjuster thing in line) it changes the idle. I would think its ok to ride with this issue however would be nice to fix it.

If idle goes up as you turn the bars, the cable is binding or the throttle slack is too tight! Main thing is to have slack at the throttle lever first by using the cable adjuster close to the throttle housing! 1/8" slack only at the lever. You may have to pull some plastic off and check where it might be binding. Wouldn't suggest zip tying the cable as the cable should have room to move as the bar turns without affecting idle.

1/8" slack would be measured by the distance between the two connectors inside the throttle box correct? Also it couldnt be that possibly the throttle cable just needs to be replaced? How would I check for binding in the cable? Or could it be that the cable routing is off?
Also the idle increases when you turn the bars but if you make them face straight ahead it goes back down

1/8" slack at the throttle lever itself before you feel cable resistance, not the distance on the internal etc contacts! If you get this adjusted right and the cable is able to move back and forth freely, but still idles up,then possible cable needs replacing. But have the slack adjusted first..
