Solenoid and Winch
#1
The motor in my Warn A2000 winch was beyond repair. The solenoid is also toast. Instead of spending $125 on a new motor, I bought a Badlands 2500 for $45. I don't like the idea of a tiny remote control so I hooked it up through the existing switch and wiring. Instead of buying a new solenoid for $40 I removed the both the hot wire (that runs directly to the battery) and the one that runs to the switch and temporarily clamped them together--this bypasses the solenoid.
It works fine. Is there a reason I need the solenoid?

Spend the 40 bucks on the solenoid.. It at least isolates the battery directly from the winch. Better to have a solenoid burn out rather than take a chance on burning up the wiring or burning the atv to the ground.
