front wheels spinning in 2 wheel drive?
I just bought a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO, I jacked all 4 tires up to check out the AWD, and when I was done I put it back in 2 wheel drive and the front tire still spun, is this normal? Also is there a way I can test to see if the coolant fan is working or when is it suppose to turn on?

If you can stop the wheels from turning with your foot while in the air in 2 wheel drive after kicking it out of awd, this is normal. Up in the air is just a a good way to see if the awd works, but it doesn't always kick out of awd like it is on the ground with a load on the machine. IF you can't stop the wheels from turning,it could be a cracked roller cage in the front diff. Best way to test one is against a tree or post and see if the front wheels spin when the rear wheels slip. On the cooling fan first check to see if you have a SILVER ecm module if this machine is new to you. If you have a BLACK Chinese module it needs to be replaced under the recall. No charge if it hasn't been done.http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2008/...o-Fire-Hazard/ If you do have the Silver Sure Power module even they can fail as it controls the fan operation, charging, battery protection, main circuit breakers,etc.. You can always unplug the fan and run 12 volts straight to it to see if the fan works. If it does, but doesn't ever kick on,hot light comes on,etc, the ecm is probably the cause. Here's one on ebay.2004 2006 Polaris Sportsman 450 500 Scrambler Surepower ECM PDM 2203348 | eBay

Yea noticed that too,but got what he meant.. Old Magnums would run so rich people did pull air filters from them to make them run better, most didn't ever need to be choked to start and a lot would puff out smoke and foul plugs.Don't know why the old 425s were the worst on this as basically they were the same basic engines as the 500s and used the same carbs as the early Sportsman 500s.They didn't seem to vibrate any worse than the 500,but did wear out needles and seats, float arms and float pins.
