Hey guys, I've got an 02 Sportsman 700 with a spun bearing. So I'm trying to figure out my options here. I can get bottom end rebuild kit with the crank/pistons/gaskets/seals for about $900, but its with a re-manufactured crank. Or I can get a new crank from HotRods for $650, and piece everything else together for somewhere around the same price I would imagine.

I guess my big question is, and I've been really searching around for more information, can I rebuild the engine, with the 700 case and head, with an 800 crank/balance shaft/pistons? 800 parts are cheaper and easier to get, and I need to know if and what models/part numbers will fit into a 700 engine case. I know the bore is the same but that's about it.

To sum up my questions again:

Will a re-manufactured 700 crank hold up to a new one?

Can a 700 be rebuilt with an 800 bottom end(Crank/pistons)?

If anyone can offer any kind of help or advice, I'd really really appreciate it. I'm pretty new to all this and am trying my best to learn fast. Thanks!

 

My two cents,I'd go with the Hot Rods crank as they're supposedly built stronger than the oem cranks and keep as a 700. Seems like every year people are asking about doing this change up and some have opened up a can of worms in doing so.
