2012 ranger 500 engine rebuild*help*
#11
Granted valves are used to riding in one spot, but if you cleaned the valves up,the stems along with the valve faces from carbon build up and lapped them in good to where they wasn't any seepage when you reassembeld them, that shouldn't have affected it that much. As long as the valve stem goes through the seat with no binding, the seat and valve surface can be lapped with fine valve lapping compound in most cases without having to go to cutting seats. Plus while you're at it not a bad idea to check the rocker arms and shafts for any wear points.Any problems there could mimic a valve or a weak spring problem.

All is back together and no more noise from the valves. The engine is almost ready for install. One last obstacle is the aftermarket cylinder does not have a coolant flange. How do I remove the factory one from the old cylinder? It looks press fit

I butchered the old cylinder with my sawsall by cutting on each side of the flange the length of the cylinder removing the cut out portion then into my vise and then cutting to the flange at three spots. A light tap with a chisel liberated the flange from the cut out piec. Saved 60$ not buying a new one.

Guess you meant $33.60 as that's the cheapest I've found on the flange. Put the flange in the freezer and heat the cylinder up. Use some red loctite andd tap the flange in. What was the cause of the valve noise or did it just stop?

I live in Canada. The pure polaris parts are ridiculous in price. I don't know what caused the noise. Tore the head down, put it back together and it was fine. Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated
