Best thing is to have the wiring schematic. Sitting 6 years, problem could be shorts in the wiring, especially under the headlight pod area was a bad area on the harness with all the twisting and turning. Plus the left control switch itself is notorious for shorting out internally not allowing power to the starter, lights, etc.Worth the 5 bucks and can save you some hair pulling on checks.2002 Polaris Scrambler 500 Service Manual PDF Download

Well it sat for around 6 years and my buddy garage caught on fire and the plastic melted but didn't burn and the wires are fine and it was taking very good care of. could the switch not let the power go anywhere else because that's the only place the power is going to

Yes the switch allows power to the ignition switch, starter, lights, etc. Brass contacts in it can corrode and cause problems. You can try some electrical cleaner and spray through the cracks and crevices and work the on/off emergency kill switch back and forth and see if that helps.Plus check the wiring from the switch leading under the front panel for any shorts. No use in taking one apart as many have found as small parts can fly out. Use the manual and its trouble shooting guides if need be and schematic rather than just throwing parts at it first.

And the switch still works when you switch it to off it turns that little light off in the switch. I also have heard check all the fuses in the little black bags I'm just very lost I can take the motor apart and put it back together but I'm lost with this the quad ran fine before it sat and the garage caught on fire but if the fuses were bad wouldn't it not let power anywhere?

The switch itself may work but may not be able to send power beyond itself.. That's why I said to clean it up and check wiring leading from it first.Common problem on these over the years and don't know how many I've replaced, but eliminate any shorts or obvious problems first before you throw parts at one. Again a manual can save you time and money if you get stuck on this, plus pay for itself over and over on other repairs and service.

Okay will do I guess I'm going to check the switch then all the wiring make sure it's all nice and plugged in tight and last I will pull off the pull start cover and make sure it's not all rusted in there
Thank you!

I never used my switch on my 800, then it started shutting down while riding and come back on in seconds. Took it to dealer, charged 1 hr for the switch to be cleaned and it was great. He told me to cycle the switch every few rides so it doesn't build up with dirt and water corrosion. Now I do it on all my bikes. Good luck.
