I have a 1996 Polaris Xplorer and cannot get it to go into high gear or idle down. Have adjusted linkage but has not helped. What else could I try to get it into high gear? how to idle down?

 

First off have you tried the idle adjuster at the carb itself? Big knurled **** on the right hand side of the carb. Plus if the throttle cable is too tight adjusting the carb idle screw may not help. Play at the thumb lever should be around 1/16" or so. Cable adjuster is right off the throttle housing. Slide the rubber piece back,loosen the lock nut and turn the adjuster in or out as needed to get the correct play then tighten the lock nut.
