1997 Polaris Xplorer 400 HELP - Pops out of reverse!
I tried adjusting the linkage but still only have Forward. I can get it where it will go into reverse but it keeps popping out and grinding. I disconnected the linkage and manually put trans into R and it clicks in and will back up a little bit but then jumps back out of gear.

Sounds like either the slider gear dogs(#38) or the reverse gear(39) dogs aren't allowing the two gears to lock in good enough. This can also be caused by a worn shift fork as it engages the slider gear in forward and reverse.

after further review i found that the bracket that holds the tranny to the from was broken and needed welding. i am assuming that the tranny was tweeking just enough to pop it out of gear. took it to my fathers to have him weld it. will be picking it back up this weekend and try the tranny adjustments again and fingers crossed it works now.
