Hey guys Picked up an 04 atp with just over 1000 mi in good shape runs well but got smell of burning oil on exhaust pipe got service manual coming for it . Is it a fairly straight forward job for someone who is fairly mech. inclined? any tips or tricks from those who might have done? Thanks in advance

Not that hard but the tank may have to be removed to get to the breather cover easily. Breather cover has a metal gasket that's prone to have oil seepage around it. A thin coat of silicone around the edges of the gasket can help the bolt the cover back on. Don't over look the crank case vent and hose at the back of the cover that goes to the air box for a any oil leaking.Valve cover o-rings may be worn and need to be replaced if leaking around this area also.

Hopefully just the breather cover and not any thing major. That's the part that seeped the most.Easy to take off,no cam chain or cam removal. Just clean and use a little sealant around the gasket.

I never had to remove this, the only leakers I had were from the cover, but if you want to seal it,a few bolts and off it comes.
