Default 05 ATP 500 electrical issues

My 05 ATP 500 has electrical ghosts..key switch seemed goofy for a while so I replaced it..didn’t fix problem..atv died in woods couple times..seemed like engine ground was bad..tightened it but that didn’t fix it..traced power from Battery to solenoid (motor cranks when I jump leads) to two grey leads into wiring harness..they turn red then go to ECM ..power to those two leads in the ten pin clip but no other power in or out. No lights, no power to key, nothing..I’ve removed all the tape ect on the wires and can’t find anything that feels broken or rigid. A new ECM is 450$ for this machine so I’m a bit nervous about my diagnosis. Any ideas??

My first guess would be the kill switch on the handlebars is bad , try flooding it with plastic safe contact cleaner from the outside and work it back & forth . You could also try jumpering the r/b wire to the r/w wire at the kill switch to by pass it .
Check your pm mail .

Don't know if the ecm was replaced or not under the recall, but with the expanded list it may have been added. I'd call a dealer if you're not the original owner if it comes down to the pesky ecm that I had to replace so many of.https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2008/po...to-fire-hazard
Another place repairs the larger ecms for the Rangers, etc. If they can repair yours that can save some bucks.Worth a call anyway.https://modulemaster.com/rebuilds/sh...bution-module/

I bypassed the kill switch with no luck..still nonower to anything. I cleaned those connections again and nothing. I jumped a hot wire from battery to key switch, used the two end terminals (from four in switch) and it started up perfect, I removed end wire to disengage starter, and it idled with no problems. The second I take power from second prong it dies and headlights go out....

I bought it new and it’s the original ECM. I called Polaris directly and it was not on recall list. Normal ECMs are 100$ but this one is 450$ because it’s ATP specific.

If you're getting power in to the ecm but not out, most times it's bit the dust. Unless you're an electrical tech,it's hard for most people to repair one or try to bypass one because of all the functions it controls, not just power to the dash alone. Contact the place I mentioned and see if they can help. It's worth a shot to try to save 350 bucks. Many others have had the same thing happen and here's an example of even the "newer" style ecm that fried that a member posted a pic of.
