2008 Sportsman 500 not shifting smooth
#1
i have a 2008 Sportsman 500 HO that does not shift smoothly. Both primary and secondary clutches are clean and operate smoothly without the belt. Belt is new and alignment is good. With the clutch cover removed.when I increase the throttle (any gear or neutral), the motor torques CCW (as viewed from above) just slightly as the motor winds up (belt hesitates on primary)and then as the primary engages the motor “returns to home” (straightens out) and the wheeler then operates smoothly AS LONG AS THE PRIMARY REMAINS ENGAGED. Motor mounts seem okay but I’m not sure how much torque is too much torque or if that is even my issue? Looking for some help here please. I’m new to the forum but we’ll versed as a mechanic on toys and vehicles. Thanks a ton in advance!!!

If in doubt on the motor mounts, change them as they don't have to just split to cause problems, they can get too soft over the years and allow the engine to flex too much. This just affects the clutches. Plus I hope you have the oem belt and not an aftermarket belt. Those would sometimes cause shifting problems all by themselves mainly because many were too tight and too wide. If the clutches have never been gone through after almost 10 years,it might be time to replace worn parts also.
