1998 500 polaris sportsman
#1
I' m new to this forum so any help would be greatly appreciated. I just picked up this sportsman recently and cannot get the awd to work. I have power at the awd button and transmission switch. I have no power to the two grey and white wires at the terminal board that run down to the hubs. The bike will run in forward while the awd button is engaged but when you pull it in neutral or reverse it kills the motor. I have traced wires until blue in the face. Lol any suggestions what to do next.

Just for starters disconnect the black wire from the reverse limiter module as they all fail. That will enable full power in reverse with out having to push the over ride button. You may or may not have to push the button to get awd power in reverse. Item#32 in the parts break down. On the no power to the gray awd wires, trace the shift box switch gray wire to the terminal board under the front panel. Move it to the red/white terminal section. That should give you power to the hub coil gray wires.

I Disconected the black wire that runs from the limiter module like you said. That worked. As I was looking at the board again I noticed that somebony had plugged the Grey wire from the awd switch to a terminal with black wires. I unplugged it and pluggd it in with the two grey wires that runs to the hubs. It works perfect now. Thanks again for your help I appreciate it.
