Question Help separating rear axle sportsman 500 1998

I have removed the rear axle. I need to seperate the two halfs at the boot and install the 2nd picture. Instead of buying the whole axle, I just got this part that was broken. the problem is, when I remove the boot, I cant pull the 2 halves apart. They are very tight and I Have no leverage. I was taking a hard turn in AWD and one side of a yolk cracked off...
Any ideas how to free the 2 halves so I can install the new splined part? Thanks!!

splined end is supposed to slip back and forth I believe the 2 sections are seized with rust? Might have to get some rust release spray in there and try to work them in and out without damaging them cant say for sure but looks like a slip joint to me if you do separate it clean it up and grease the you know what out of it and re band the rubber boot Hope works out for you

Never took one apart, but after 20 years I'm sure the seal is gone even if you can get it a part. The yoke and the shaft alone would cost as much as what you can get a brand new after market drive shaft for.https://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-1998-P...BaYKsd&vxp=mtr

What seal are you refering to? maybe I missed someting.
And seeing how hard this is right now, I wished I would have spent 2 times as much and gotten the whole assembly. I might return the part i got and get the whole axle. But first, Im going to try and buy something to spray in there. Like another poster said. Maybe heat too? there is just no leverage. maybe tie one end to a tree and the other end to the winch hahahahaha

On another note.... This might solve my rough suspension on the rear... one side is stiff and one is smooth. greased everything. but never thought to check the axle travel. I didnt realize untill this problem that it slides.

If you can get a refund on parts,I'd chunk those old drive shafts and get a couple new ones. Not worth messing with if the shaft is frozen. The aftermarkets have only been out a short time I believe. Look at the high dollar prices some are asking for old worn out driveshafts in this listing also. Not worth messing with compared to the new ones.

Under the rubber boot #4 on OPT's picture the piece on longer shaft should be collar that has to be unscrewed to get the piece that's frozen out before you slip the new one into [seal OPT referring to is in there] Similar to a canning jar lid without the middle If that makes any sense? don't know how else to describe

Jeez! Or Geese! as an idiot on another forum used to say. I looked at some of those listings and someone was asking 45 bucks more for a used axle than someone else was selling a new one for.

Umm... yeah.... I think thats a good idea. Do you think there is any good reason to get a matching pair of axles for the rear? Or just replace the one thats broke? Sometimes I cant tell the best "common sense" on these things haha.

I am going to look at that tonight and see if thats a thing. Although, if its suppost to move in and out freely over bumps etc, then why wont it move? Thats the only thing thats making me think there is no collar keeping it from moving. I will investigate tho.

Thanks. And I will update this post.

Before the aftermarket u-joint drive shafts came out for $135,people could actually get those high prices on used shafts considering a new oem drive shaft is around $350 each. Now the used parts guys aren't the only game in town and I bet are gonna be dropping prices pretty quick or end up eating those old worn out parts.
