Default 04-05 ATP engine swap

Can anybody tell me if I can put a 05 ATP 500 engine into a 04 Atp 500 If I swap out flywheel and stator from the 04? Or is it not that simple or can any other year 500 engine be swapped out into up to 04?
Thanks

Pull the stator plate leave it hooked up,move it out of the way and slip the new engine in after you pull the old one out. That way you can use your existing electrical components. You certainly wouldn't want to swap out your electrical harness and components with the 05 since it uses the dreaded ecm module instead of the regulator that your model has. All are already HO engines and basically the same so should be an easy swap. Doesn't have to be an ATP specific engine,a 500 engine from any Sportsman HO would swap out.

Thanks OPT that's what I was hoping to do if I did. I just was confused as to fitment # on partzilla up to 2002 model year So as long as I keep my ignition parts any 2000-2004 HO 500 would fit? not a standard 500 it has to be a high output do you know what years had HO engines
Thanks again for your time

Look for 2001 and up as that was the first HO engine with the larger BST40 carb (like yours) and the longer duration cam. 2000 and older engines had the smaller BST34 carb and standard cam. Your ignition would work on these older engines but you'd loose a little on hp plus you'd take a chance on running into a soft cam problem on anything 2000 and older.
