Read this before buying that new ranger!

You can forget about any help from the (NO-SERVICE Polaris Factory) PLEASE get all the extra warranty you can buy. 2006 Ranger 700 6X6 new in April 2006; it has approx 130 hours to date. It has broken every time I've taken it out and had to be returned to the dealer for repairs, except for the first ride and the last two times since getting back from the dealer (in shop for 1½ months). I've had to return 2 weeks early on both my hunting trips in 06 and 07 and all but 3 trips to our cabin because of mechanical failures. I do not trust going out without anther vehicle with us. The shop has been great on repairing it however; I do not feel this machine will ever be reliable; its been in the shop for repairs approx 3 months since purchased. I am 63 years old, retired and I baby this Ranger all the time. I worry constantly when going the 2 -1/2 miles to our cabin. I strongly suggests anyone with thoughts of buying one, get the extra warranty. I paid $14,999.00 including full cab and tires and another $500.00 for an extra 2 years warranty.

I had an 05, hunted, plowed snow, rode trails all over Alaska, and never had a single problem. Only had one update, that was the Alternator which polaris paid to upgrade. I guess I was just lucky.
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with yours. But for those of you who are reading this, understand that there are many many of us who love our Polaris and I think the RZR is the most fun machine I have ever owned.

I have found that with automobiles, lawn mowers, equipment, jet skis, atv.... pretty much anything wheere there is a "seervice department" involved....... IT is SO critical to chose a reputable dealer. the quality of service varies GREATLY from dealer to dealer. It also helps to try and know enough to detect when a service "advisor" is taking your wallet for a ride. I actually could have bought all my ATV's cheaper from a dealer in a neighboring town about 20 miles away. But I opted to pay the price difference so that it woud give me an advantage when I had to take one in for service... just m .02

Well, I just bought a brand new one last week. The dealer still has it waiting on the steel cab to come in so they can install it. I certainly hope I don't have any trouble with mine.

· New April 2006 1st time I drove it. July 4th (Ran great)
· 28 Aug. 06, Hunting trip. Second day into trip started back firing running bad I ended up having to stop about every 20 minutes and remove the seat and let it cool for 15 minutes; when I change out the spark plugs the caps came apart. I had to use a pair of vise grip pliers to make a temporary repair; the heat shield broke on the exhaust and again I made a temporary repair; I ended my hunting trip and came home 7 Sep. 3 weeks early. Cleaned up the ranger and dropped at shop 8 Sep.
· 15 Sep.06 Before I ever left the shop I had to have a mechanic adjust the idle as it would not idle and reinstall wiring that was hanging out. None of the other items were fix and I was told they were on order and to go ahead and use it.
· 16 Sep 06 from the parking area to our cabin aprox. 2 miles (one way) the ranger ran ok but the idle was still not right dying everytime I stopped and the dump bed shock broke off after using one time. On the way out, the front axle broke off. The winch came apart in my hands. Picked it up 27 Sep 07
· 2 Oct.06 1st. opportunity I had to look it over since getting it back from the shop. The right front rotor disk looked like it was worked on with a grinding wheel, and one of the lug nuts was half off (the wrong style nut was used) and was striped out. The dump bed was out of alignment after replacement of the shock that broke off.
· Returned the Ranger again, I noticed the front axle (the one that was replaced) was coming out of the front drive unit, the mechanic stated they do this a lot and you will need to keep an eye on it and he reached down and pushed it back into place with his hand. He also stated they were having a lots of problems with the 700 EFI 6x6 Rangers and by next year they should have most of the problems fixed. After spending $15,000.00 + dollars I expected a Ranger free of defects.
· 1 Jun 07, Back in the shop. Will not idle, dies when you let off the gas. Picked it up 13 Jun.07
· 9 Jul 07, first time out of our yard after winter. The right middle axle broke off on the way to our cabin and the bracket that supports the middle drive broke loose. Pick it up 24 Jul 07
· 14 Sep 07, Back in the shop, had to return 2 weeks early again from my hunting trip with a broken Ranger. Transmission is jumping in and out of gear when going down hills. When the engine warms up there is a vibration so bad you can not stand to be in the vehicle without extra hearing protection

DNF I think the main problem you are having is your dealer. I sounds as though they are not very interested in fixing your problems just telling you to run it is crazy. I would bet if you found another dealer you would be in good shape

go to the section on polaris and then go to pg 14. look up the listing for throttle position sensor. i concur with you concerning **** poor factory response on defective machines. I`m going to turn over the file I`ve kept tp my states attorney generals office of consumer affairs. I don`t know about whether your state has a lemon law, but there was federal legislation titled Moss-Magnuson that I think will apply. You are probably lucky that you`ve gotten as much use from yours as you have. I think that the only way out, for both of us, is simply to take a loss and unload it on someone else. I replaced mine with a Kawasaki Mule 3010 diesel which I think will be as useful once I change out the tires for ones with a more aggressive tread and a larger size. one thing about the diesel is that when I turn the key, it starts and keeps running. It also doesn`t have all the screwed up electronics that is used on the polaris.
As an aside. I was back to my selling dealer(kawasaki), about a week after buying the mule, and his storage lot was full of polaris machines( mostly new) that were back for repair or computer replacement.
For those of you that have a good one, all I can say is that you`re probably running on borrowed time. Good Luck,
