K&N Filers - Good or Bad?
#1
I have a 2001 Sportsman 500 HO and a 2003 Sportsman 600 and would like to buy a filter that I can reuse. I was wondering what everyone thought about the K&N's. Do they fit well? What is the verdict on how they filter? Do they filter out particles as well as a paper filter? I know that paper doesn't have as good of air flow quality, but it does filter out particles really well. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

I have no complaints. Just make sure they are always oiled because that's what filters out most of the dirt. They fit perfect, not any different from how the stocker fit. Also, you won't notice any power gains unless you are seriously modifying the engine/exaust.

Uni also makes cleanable filters for Polaris machines. They are supposed to be better than the stocker as far as filtering ultrafine dust, but if they are better than the K&N, I won't say.

had one on my 2000 sportsman and now on my 04 H.O., like it alot cause I never have to buy another one just buy the recharge kit and you are set ,it comes with the cleaning solution ,and a can of spray oil.You might want to keep an old paper filter around to stick on while the KN dries.NO hair dryers,High pressure water ,or high pressure air though!

Go with K&N they fit just as good as stock and clean easier than UNI Also the Stock PRE-FILTER fits on the K&N better SAME AS STOCK paper unit . If you do alot of traing you,ll be real happy with the choice!!!!!!
