Default SP600 & 700 Rear Gearcase Oil

Anybody change the oil in the rear Gearcase on your SP600 or 700? Because I have a question you might be able to answer. I have a 600 and in the Owners manual it states on page 83, to drain the oil and then add 5 oz of oil. It also states the oil should be at the bottom of the fill plug. Well 5 oz does not put the oil at the bottom of the fill plug, but 10 oz will. So is it 5 oz of oil or 10 oz at the bottom of the fill plug? The dealer doesn't have a clue and they are trying to contact Polaris for the correct answer.

You are talking about rear gearcase (differential) and not the transmission, correct? I changed all the fluids in my 700 at 10 hours and when I got to the rear diff, I just kept putting the 80/90 to it until it started to run out. It was just way too difficult to measure out 5oz and then get it in there w/o spilling half of it. I figure that it can't hurt it even if you do get a little too much in it. It is under no pressure and the diff has a whole lot more space in it above the fill hole, so there is plenty of room for what's in there to expand when it heats up. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

Yes I'm talking about the rear gearcase differential. 5 oz will not bring the oil to the bottom of the plug threads. Polaris tech reps are trying to find out the correct answer to this problem. They can't figure out which is the typo in the manual, the 5 oz or the fill to the plug. I don't believe the seals are meant to be partially submerged in oil. This will cause them to leak. Leaking will attract dirt and the dirt will wear out the seals.

I believe there may be several typos in the owners manual. I changed the trans. fluid and the dealer says 13.5 oz. while my manual says 27 or to the bottom of the fill tube. As far as the rear gearcase, my manual also has conflicting data, if you find something out, let me know.

Polaris infomed my dealer today that 5 oz of oil in the rear gearcase should be good enough, but also said filling up to the plug will also work.
