AWD hub
#1
I fixed the broken wires in it a few weeks ago but when I took it out this weekend the same hub(right)would either not engage or would be noticablly slower engaging. When I took it aprt the last time everything looked ok but I am wondering if the armature plate could be bad and how to check it.With the hub apart the magnet will grab the plate.Any input on this? Thats kinda what I planned on but is there anything else could cause this.I wont be tearing into it for a few days it is kinda hard to type let alone wrench on my bike!I had a major crash this weekend and have my wrist in a brace. Rolled my Magnum tail over front and right on top of me.Broke the visor off my helmet, scratched and brused my back and sprain my wrist catching and pushing the big bitch off of me.I was going down a steep hill and hit a rock on the way. Hope your weekend was better.

It was black looking the last time I will replace it along with a seal and use a better torque wrench this time. And on my crash all my son could say is "he s flipping" it scared him worse than me.But when you play you got to pay it happens to all of us.

The plate must be ABSOLUTELY flat.
Also, the magnet gap must be as close to zero as possible. I find it easiest to set the gap by tapping the outer, movable pole out past the inner, and then using an old armature plate, or washer, as a guide. Just place the plate against the outer pole, like where it would be if installed, then tap gently with a hammer. You will be able to 'feel' when the plate starts hitting both poles at once by a difference in hammer rebound. The lighter the hammer the better, as long as it is heavy enough to move the outer pole.
