I am wanting to purchase this ATV. I rode it yesterday and it seems to run out fine. The only thing is when you are driving it has a clunking noise in the rear. It still runs good and is able to maneuver really well. Any suggestions as to what this problem may be? possible U-joint???????? I don't know. Help

I have a 97 sportsman with just shy of 3700 miles on it. It has been a great bike for me. A little more maintenence than other bikes I had in the past, but that is a good thing in my opinion. The noise could be a rear u-joint, simple and cheap to fix. Maybe the chain tensioner in the tranny needs to be replaced and is making a noise, again no biggie. Another thing I have been wondering about is that when I grease the rear stabilizer, Is it getting enough? I was going to take it apart and check, as it sometimes makes a noise similar to what a hinge makes when there is dust in it. All in all I don't think you could go wrong with this bike. There were some with cam problems back then, but those should all be taken care of by now.

 

Thanks fo rthe response. It has a little over 1400 miiles on it and is a decent looking bike. I am getting it for 2500.00. I think that is a fair price. What other things should I be on the lookout for?
