Default Changing Oil

Just bought a new Sportsman 500, and I was reading through the ownerw manual and for changing oil it talked about disconnecting the lower delivery hose and cleaning the fitting screen. Does anybody do this? Thank you

I have a fairly new scrambler 500 it said the same thing. I did what it said and did have some small particles on the screen. I would do it at least the first time you change the oil. It is very easy.

RDN, any tricks to getting the fitting off. I gave it hell and it wouldn't budge. I couldnt get the right size tool in there to turn it.

BigBad Scrambler, I had no trouble with mine . I just took the hose off and slide a box end wrench over it and it came wright out. Some have a bango fitting there instead of a hose. I noticed you have a 700 belt on yours. Are they just heavier duty?

Mine isnt a hos. It is a fitting. Thats why I am having so much trouble with it. Ohh well. Anyway, the 700 belt is stronger than the stock belt because it is spliceless. However, I have heard that all of the new belts are now spliceless. But, I have not had any trouble with mine. I have gone through a lot of water and had no slippage at all. Since it is an EBS belt, it has cooling fins on top that also noticably keep the clutch area cooler. Some people like the belt and others don't. It is really up to you.
